Q
Windows does not seem to recognize my archived video. How do I view a video archive on my Windows PC?
A

On every CD, DVD, or USB media that you archive from the DVR, the will be a ‘Setup.exe’ file. This file installs the IMM4 codec onto your Windows PC. This allows you to view the archived data within Windows Media Player. All video files archived from the DVR use the Windows AVI file format.

If you have installed the ‘Remote Agent’ client software from your DIGIMASTER setup CD, then you may view archived video from the ‘Backup Player’ program that is installed along with ‘Remote Agent’.

Q
I can connect to the DVR using my Local Area Network (LAN). How do I connect remotely over the Internet?
A

Once you’ve successfully connected using the Remote Agent software over the LAN, that’s half the battle. The other part of it is creating a path through which your users can connect to the DVR from outside of your LAN through your router. This is done by using
Port Forwarding. You are simply telling the router that any incoming traffic on a specific port or ports should be routed directly to the DVR using its LAN or Private IP address.

Since every router is different, please consult a Port Forwarding website (http://portforward.com) for specific instructions on how to setup port forwarding for the specific model of router that you are using.

This DVR uses two ports: 80 and 6100 (by default). You will need to forward both of these ports to the LAN IP address of your DVR, using two separate Port Forwarding entries. Some routers will have the ability to forward a range of ports. Still, set up two entries, one from starting port 80 to ending port 80, and starting port 6100 to ending port 6100. If there are options to use TCP and UDP protocols, select the option for ‘Both’. If this option is unavailable, select ‘TCP’ for port 80, and ‘UDP’ for port 6100. Make sure that these entries are saved and/or enabled (depending on the router) before continuing.

If you are unsure of what your DVR LAN IP address is, you can find this by accessing the Network Setup menu from the DVR. Press the ‘Setup’ button. Enter the system password and press ‘Enter’. Select ‘System Setup’ and press ‘Enter’. Select ‘System’ and press ‘Enter’. Select ‘Network’ and press ‘Enter’. The LAN IP address should be listed within the ‘IP Address’ data field.

Users connecting from the Internet will be using your Wide Area Network (WAN) or Public IP address. This is the one that if given to you by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If you are unsure what your WAN IP address is, there are a few ways to find out. This address will be displayed somewhere within the setup menu of your router, under ‘Status’ or ‘WAN’. You may also find out by using your Internet Explorer, if you have access to the Internet. Use the IP website (http://whatismyipaddress.com), and the address will be displayed as soon as the page loads. Alternately, you can contact your ISP, and they will be able to tell you what the address is.

Q
I am installing my DIGIMASTER DVR and there seems to be a problem. How do I troubleshoot these kind of issues right out-of-the-box?
A

Issue: Unit will not power-on.

Symptoms: When you connect power to the DVR system, it will turn on for a moment, spin the internal cooling fans and HDD disks, and then will power-off and beep twice. When attempting to power-on the unit using the power button, the system does not respond. There is no LED activity on the front panel. (If there is no double-beep, this could indicate a bad motherboard, or lack of AC power to the unit.)

Resolution: The front panel plug might be disconnected from the DVR motherboard. You would need to disconnect AC power and open the DVR case cover. Find a small 1” wide ribbon cable which connects to the front panel. The cable should run underneath the HDDs and connect to the motherboard. The plug and socket can only fit together in one way, so there is no danger of damaging the internal components by reconnecting the plug. Once the plug is reconnected, replace the case cover, reconnect AC power and try again. If you are still unsuccessful, please contact GANZ Technical Support.

Issue: Unit seems to power-on, but there is no video on the main monitor.

Symptoms: Power LED is lit. System fans and disks are spinning. But there is no video on the main monitor, or in cases where there is no OSD menu or status bar, and you see the monitor is sequencing all of the channels one-by-one.

Resolution: Make sure that the main monitor is powered, the correct video input is selected on the monitor, and that the BNC cable connection is plugged into the main monitor output of the DVR. Sometimes, this connection is inadvertently plugged into one of the spot monitor outputs, which constantly shows a sequence of all channels.

Issue: Unit power-on, but the POST results show an incorrect number of HDDs and/or CD/DVD drives.

Symptoms: System powers-on as normal, but during the POST, the system detects an incorrect number of drives. The system may beep and show that no HDDs are connected.

Resolution: While it is rare, there have been cases where a unit has been handled roughly during shipping, and one or more cable connections have come loose or disconnected completely. In situations where the tech feels comfortable, we would recommend that they remove the DVR case cover, and check all of the cable connections inside the case. Each HDD or other drive should have one power cable and one data cable connected to the main board.

Issue: The unit prompts you to Format one or more HDDs during the POST.

Symptoms: System powers-on as normal, but during the POST, the prompts you to format one or more of the HDDs.

Resolution: All HDDs are formatted after they are installed into the DVR system, during a bench test before packing and shipping. If the system prompts you to format the HDDs, it is ok to select ‘YES’ and format the drives the first time you startup the DVR. If this prompt occurs on subsequent restarts, this could indicate some kind of HDD or system error. Contact GANZ Technical Support.

Issue: Monitor output is rolling or scrolling.

Symptoms: System powers-on as normal, but the picture is rolling or scrolling, appearing to be out-of-sync with the monitor.

Resolution: (DR4N only) Check the back of the DVR to see that the format selector switch is set to NTSC and not PAL format. (All units) If the unit boots up in PAL format, it could be detecting a non-standard NTSC video signal. Check all cameras and connections and reboot the system. If the DVR has an NTSC signal connected to BNC input 1 of the DVR, upon reboot, the system should auto-detect and switch to NTSC. (NOTE: Changing video format from NTSC to PAL will erase all data on the HDD.)

Issue: Search function is not working; cannot view Playback video.

Symptoms: When the user presses the Search button, there is a beep, but no pop-up menu response from the system.

Resolution: If the system is not detecting a HDD, or if there is no data on the HDD, the unit will not respond to the Search button. Check the cable connections from the DVR motherboard to the HDD (power and data). If all plugs are connected properly, it is possible that the HDD has an internal error that is causing it to not be detected by the system. Replace the HDD, cycle the power, and reboot.
